Plateau State is the twelfth largest state of Nigeria, and is roughly located in the center of the country. It is geographically unique in Nigeria because its boundaries totally surround the Jos Plateau, having the Jos Plateau totally in its central and northern part. Its capital is Jos. Plateau State is celebrated as "The Home of Peace and Tourism". Plateau State gets its name from the Jos Plateau. It has a population of around 3.5 million people.
Plateau State is located on latitude 90 10’N and longitude 90 45’E. It is borders Kaduna, Bauchi and Taraba States.
Plateau State ,described as "The Home of Peace and Tourism" has an estimated growing population of around 4.1 million people.
Plateau State is also divided into 17 local government areas, each sharing common affinities or distant bloodlines.
The world's largest known deposits of columbite, an ore of niobium found associated with tin, along with so many others.
Though situated in the tropical zone, Plateau State has a near temperate climate with an average temperature of between 18 and 22°C.
Acha and millet are the chief cash crops; yams, sorghum, corn (maize), potatoes, cowpeas, rice, fruits, and vegetables are the staple crops.
